How well do homeplugs perform? I'm wanting to move my Xbox/PS3 into my bedroom upstairs located at B. My PC/Modem/Router is located in the study downstairs at A.

The wireless signal is crap and running a cable isn't possible. I have VM 50Mbps with a D-LINK 615 (DD-WRT).

Can I effectively set up something like this?

Modem
V
Router > PC
V
Homeplug
V
Homeplug
V
Router > PS3
V
Xbox.

Also, what Homeplugs would you advise?

All help is appreciated. Thanks.

i got the ocuk value homeplugs 6 moths ago and never had a problem with them, always get a connection and they never drop out.

Bought a set of comtrend 9020 200mbps ones, couldnt get them working in my house at all. Possible issue with the wiring, as the house has a recently added extension. In which i was wanting to use one of the plugs.

Using a switch in the bedroom may be cheaper then a 2nd router. So network cable from homeplug > Switch > xbox/ps3.

Or some homeplugs have more then 1 network port on them so no need for extra stuff, but those are a bit more pricey then standard though.

As above you only need a small switch, not a second router.. or get the home plug (Netgear do one) with multiple ethernet ports built in.

I've got a set of Solwise gigabit powerline adaptors. I've used a network testing app and it came back with around 10MB/s (a true 1000mbps network should get at least 50MB/s nearer 120MB/s)

So mine perform at roughly 100mpbs network speeds. (gigabit network connections all round)

They work far better than wireless, but I'd take a proper network cable connection over these any day of the week

Mine now goes into a gigabit switch that I screwed into the TV stand, so it feeds the TV, PS3 and Media Centre
