I am currently running windows 2008 but to be honest there is a lot of stuff i would not use it for and the upcoming windowsserver looks what i need when it comes to the whole VPN allowing me to login from somewhere else and use it for some FTP services as well. However i do need it for more than that.

1. Can you install apps on the homeserver lets say teamspeak for example?

2. Could you make the homeserver into a web server allowing you to host a website and even turn it into a email server along with that?

You can run a lot of stuff on the home server, but you cant turn it into an exchange server.

To be honest sounds to me like you really need small business server.

That comes with exchange and such with the license.

Are you serious? SBS with exchange is overkill for this. Stick with homeserver and use apache and mercury mail server.
