Anyone with a Automatic honda civic from 2008 or 2009, do you know if you set the drive to reverse is it normal for the car to still be able to roll forward ?

previous to this car I had an automatic Fiat Punto sporting and when in revers that car would not roll forward.

I have driven around 20 different types of automatics car and I have only experienced it in one car and that was in a Peugeot 1001.

This, I believe, is because it has an automatic clutch rather than your usual automatic gearbox. The drive doesn't engage until you have a certain amount of revs so when the engine is at idle it will roll backwards and forwards.

Is the civic similar to this?

Sounds much more likely. I highly doubt it was a proper automatic with a torque converter if it could do what you say.

well the gear changes definitely seem a lot different in the Fiat to the Honda.

in the Fiat you never even knew the gear had changed apart from the speed increase. In the Honda you notice the gear change exactly like a manual. i.e. revs drop gear changes reves back up again. Suppose its like you said its as if its got an automatic clutch that's kicking in on the gear changes.
