Honda CTR - Ignition problem

Hello, can anyone help diagnose this issue?

Scenario;

- Start car, drive to any given destination
- Attempt to start car after being at said destination for 10 minutes
- Car won't start, the ignition won't even attempt to tick over
- Wait 20-40 minutes
- Try ignition, car starts absolutely fine

the RAC man who originally came, said it was because of the battery and the 'acid' needing to settle, I've changed the battery but unfortunately the problem still persists.

Absolutely no problem when the car is running, drives like a dream, he said that it is a common problem (and his 3rd call out that same day for the same thing across different cars) for this reason I don't think it's 'Honda' or 'Civic' specific.

Any ideas? I'm really quite clueless when it comes to diagnosing faults in cars, and am trying to avoid going to the Honda dealership which will cost me an arm and a leg.

My mate has had exactly this same problem and changed his starter 3 times, spaced it out etc. but no joy.

Last night he said he'd likely found the problem and it was that the ring gear had come loose from the flywheel. They can separate due to the heat, hence why after running it you have issues. Seems likely the same problem. If you have a prefacelift CTR, I'd get yourself a facelift flywheel which is a bit lighter and have the clutch changed at the same time to save labour costs. A big bill, but it's a gearbox off job regardless I think.

What area are you in? If you're in Lancs I can reccoment a specialist so you can avoid the dealer.

Mine is an 02' so pre-facelift (actually prefer the pfl style, as it's a milano red and goes well with the rear light covers!).

Unfortunately I'm located down in Bristol so lancs is a bit far for me, will search locally for a Honda specialist.

How much would I be looking at for the clutch change? just so I have a ballpark figure.

I never had it done on mine but the clutch itself is £130 from memory. Flywheel can be had second hand off the type-r forums for a facelift one. That's where my mate has got his from. Think it's costing him for clutch and flywheel change (exedy clutch, supplying flywheel) about £350 at a specialist. It was in the 300 range. You might be OK clutch wise, depends how long you want to keep the car. See what the garage says really.
