Honda nuts, need some info and advise please

Hi guys!

I'm looking at buying another honda, I've had a facelift EP3 and a 2010 FN2 with factory LSD in the past.

I'm currently using a 2010 Skoda Octavia VRS, the most boring car I've owned, so need to replace it with another honda, and this time keep it and remind myself how bad other cars can be haha.

So, I have two children aged 3 and 7, so 4 doors isn't a must but would be appreciated for sure.
I looked at a FK2 but they are out my price range unfortunately.
FD2, as nice as they are, I can't justify the premium they demand really, so I've come down to two models.

The DC5 integra, or the CL7 accord euro r, I'm leaning towards the euro r but can't help feel that the integra will be much more fun and involving to drive.

K24 Frank could also be a option in the future also, another thing thats going for the integra is being able to buy performance parts easier and much cheaper than the accord.

So guys, what do you think? Is the CL7 accord much better than I think it is?

DC5 will most likely be the funner car, The DC5 weighs 1180kg compared to the CL7 1390kg, so quicker and more chuckable.

Either way they're both going to be fun cars regardless, they both have the same kit essentially, same K20A, LSD and all that.

I prefer the Accord since i like the look of the CL7's more, "nicer" interior, maybe not as harsh ride? someone will have to confirm that, last time I was in a DC5 the ride was really hard, the CL7 will be a better practical family car especially with kids, last time i checked the Euro R was cheaper to buy than the DC5 and likely to run, last time i checked insurance on a DC5 I laughed at the high prices....As you can tell, I really like the CL7 haha.
 
Cheers guys, I like the CL7, doesn't shout performance either.

Hmmm, it's bound to be lighter than my Octavia tho right?
If I ask torque GT to import one for me, suppose no could ask them to find one with some performance parts already fitted

I'll try and get a drive in each asap
 
Think the CL7 is roughly the same weight, The CL7 does have more power though from a high revving NA motor, so i'd imagine i'd be miles funner than a turbo'd VAG motor.
 
I had a DC5 for a few years, the ride is very hard. Mine had Ohlins coilovers when i got it which were absurdly stiff so i flogged them on to some bloke in Sweden i think and replaced it with a some low mileage OEM shocks and springs and even then it was pretty bone shaking if you're using it daily. Mine had a few others mods, RBC intake, i think a spoon 4-2-1 downpipe, something else Mugen which i forget.

I did a roadtrip to the 'ring in mine with some friends for my stag do and you can JUST about fit a small-medium adult male in the back, but no one taller than about 175cm at an absolute limit so if your kids are tall you might run into issues if you want to keep it for a while.

I have very mixed feelings about the DC5, it was a really halo car i aspired too for ages and was really sucked in by the JDMness of it all and while i did always win the internet cool points game to anyone who knew stuff about cars in all honesty it wasn't that great, I had mine from about 2009-2011 i think and it was a 2004 car so from 5-7 years old and it was starting to have age related issues then so i really don't understand how they're commanding the prices they are now which are pretty much what i sold mine for 9 years ago.

I went to a UK Subaru Impreza STi after which was a way better car in every measurable way for me, mostly as the ride was 10x better on the UK roads and with the AWD i wasn't spinning the tyres out of every slightly damp junction looking like a chav like i was in the teg.

I don't know what my point really is :p i'd say make sure you don't get sucked in to the fanboy stuff around these cars, to live with every day i found the DC5 to be not that amazing as you're just running around in a not that great 2.0 if you're keeping it under 6000rpm which is what you do most of the time.
 
I haven’t owned either of these, but certainly done my research into them in the past. I always wanted a DC2 or DC5 when I was younger. Before I had kids. Both of my kids are about the same age as yours, I recently looked into the CL7 euro r myself. I even contacted torque GT about importing one.
This was when, I was looking to replace my old 650i, what wasn’t the most friendly car for kids. Now taking into consideration that the DC5 is smaller than a 650i. Have you looked considered what it will be like with car seat or boaster seats in the back? Also how much of pain it is to climb in the back to belt them up? If they can’t do it them selfs yet?
Personally I would go for the CL7 Euro R if I was your shoes. It would be more practical and a rare sight on the U.K. roads. You considered a FD2, not sure what going price is for them these now, I know they always seemed to have a massive scene tax on them.

Get some bolt ons and maybe a K24A3 bottom end, give it a boost of torque to help with the extra weight.

I did think about adding forced induction to either of the cars, it looks amazing on paper, but can't help but feel it ruins the character of the k20.

Also, the CL7 is about 3grand cheaper for a fresh import from torque GT

Does anyone know if the rear seats can be folded in the CL7?

yeah I had a look at the price of an fd2 after I posted that, they certainly are not a cheap import.
I would have certainly got a cl7 myself If I hadn’t had changed jobs and needed a diesel. I would certainly be interested in the MPG, if you where to get one.

If it's anything like the UK spec k20 found in the EP3 and FN2, I used to average about 22-28 on a daily commute, then about 36-38 on a long run to say Butlins or something
 
i averaged 33mpg in my FN2 on the trip. could very easily get high 30's on a run.

wish I kept it now as when i looked at a few to get back in one they are all starting to get a bit ropey.

ended up in a diesel focus.
 
My vote would be the CL7.

I owned a DC5 for 4 years, and access to the rear is god-awful and the rear seats don't lend themselves well to car seats either. It's possible, but if costs were equal then I'd recommend the extra doors.
 
Why not look at the CL9 Type S. K24 and can be reflashed for around £300. I have had it done and it transforms the car. Personally I cannot see the justification in spending £8-£9k on a CL7 when you could get a CL9 reflash it, exhaust header, HFC, catback, heeltoe intake (aka CT engineering intake), LSD and still have some monies left over.

I've got a 2015 estate now with the 1.8 petrol, performance isn't amazing but it's fine for my use, what is amazing is the amount of room and how easy it makes life with kids on trips, breaks etc and the typical honda reliability, spec is decent too
 
I have a DC5, no good if you have kids I’m afraid. Solution for me was a CRV for family stuff, I appreciate two cars isn’t viable though!

There is always a CL9 2.4 tourer for the OP - gives him enough space and still he can tinker with it to add more performance.
