Hi Chaps,

Please forgive me - Semi-dupe post, i posted up using my nephews account i created for him which auto saved creds on my Chrome - Ghey.

The other half and I are marrying in summer 2018, we are looking at getting our honeymoon booked, or at least our destination decided.

We were looking at 10 days in the Maldives initially but then someone at a wedding event suggested Mauritius instead. However, we are marrying 24th June and would be wanting to fly out within a week of this... and checking just now on weather realised that this will be winter time for both countries.

We want a luxury / tropical / once in a (our) lifetime sort of holiday, can anyone give us any pointers or suggestions please?

Cheers!

I went to Mauritius on my first honeymoon and that was in May. Being close to the equator the seasons don't change much, just make sure it's not going to be monsoon. It was fine if you like all inclusive lying around doing nothing kind of holidays. I don't think it's as special as the Maldives which is more remote with villas on stilts on the water and lots of small islands. Move away from the resorts in Mauritius and it's a bit like a slum where all the locals live which made me sad.

Me and the Missus went to Bali for our honeymoon..

Hot, relaxing and the people out there were very welcoming.. depends on what your budget can stretch to though.

We decided not to go on our honeymoon straight after the wedding. what the missus did that was very clever was to create a list of activities and set-up a website where people could pay towards said activities as wedding gifts..

we have a budget of abour £5500 for the honeymoon.

I like the idea of allowing guests to "donate" towards the holiday.

Bali has just cropped up on a few searches as has Bahamas and Bora Bora.

Would you spend much time in the sea snorkeling and/or diving? We went to the Maldives for our honeymoon and spent an awful lot of time in the sea and it was fantastic. We looked at Mauritius but the idea of stepping out of your villa and into the sea and being able to swim around your island swayed us to go with the Maldives.

Personal opinion is that Bora Bora is a little out of your budget considering flights will be £800-£1000 each I imagine (at least - it's pretty hard to get to) + accommodation at £300-£500+ a night, leaving little to no money for spending.

Of course, you can save money on things, but Bora Bora is expensive and you don't want to be watching money on honeymoon.

Having done it myself, I'd recommend a road trip - West Coast USA, not too far + lots of variety. Potentially a small stay in Hawaii? You will need more then 10 days in total though.

It all comes down to who you are, do you want to sit on a beach for 10 days, or do you want a little adventure?

Edit - Noticed you want Luxury, so US West coast probably not your thing.

West Coast of Mexico, Puerto Vallarta.

Beautiful - spent 2 weeks of my wedding/honeymoon trip laying on the golden sands in 40c heat.
