Honeymoon Suggestions

My strongest advice is to get off the main island and ideally into the Yasawa or Mamanuca islands. Most complaints I hear about Fiji come from people who just stayed either on the main island or big resorts.

It's the friendliest place i've ever been, people walking down the road will regularly call out and say hello, stop for a chat then carry on their way. Didn't get hassled to buy anything outside of Nadi.

We've been twice, both times we went to Taveuni Island for 1 part of the trip. The second part of the trip we went into the Yasawa Islands, stayed at Nanuya the first time and Navini Island in the Mamanucas the second time.

I've been to Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Mexico, Barbados...none of them come close to the beauty and chilled out nature of Fiji for me. Flores in Indonesia is a very close second though.
Cheers for that. See in my mind, it wasn't the beauty it once was after speaking to various relations that visited the island over the years. Mind you they are all from Vitu Levu.

I had initially thought of visiting the same island, in order to see family and to visit Rakiraki where my father was born. Cheers.

Google some of the following:

Mo'orea
Providenciales
Galapagos islands
Komono Island

Maldives for me is too much of a typical honeymoon destination these days so would rather Bora Bora or Mo'orea.

Moorea and Rarotonga are on my bucket list. Bora Bora doesn't interest me anymore, I know people who've been who weren't massively impressed and said Rarotonga was much better. I used to be obsessed with visiting BB as it seems postcard perfect but as time goes on it becomes prohibitively expensive both to get to and stay there.

On the flipside we went to Flores/Komodo National Park (45 min flight from Bali) and it was Fiji-esque levels of relaxing.

Where did you stay in Flores? We stayed with the Komodo resort and diving club and it was absolutely incredible. Absolutely amazing experience.

I'm surprised you found Bali to be underwhelming. I found the Balinese to be incredibly friendly and the food is amazing. It is mega touristy in Kuta, and Ubud, but that's quite good if you want to go out to bars and experience the nightlife a bit.

I spent a month in Mauritius on my medical elective and would love to go back. Super relaxing and friendly with amazing scenery. We probably didn't experience the finest of dining but there is certainly plenty of nightlife!

We wanted to do the Maldives or Seychelles etc for our honeymoon but didn't want to take the gamble with the weather when spending that amount of money.

We decided on Santorini in the end which was absolutely stunning and perfect for couples. There was enough there to do without it being too busy and full of kids etc., lots of really good restaurants.

It's not really beach place but if the view from your own private pool or hot tub if you're on the cliff face is amazing.

We will be going back at some point :)

we did a 3 week America road trip, california etc.

1st anniversary we did Mexico.

Would recommend both.

Sensatori Resort Riviera Maya Mexico was excellent.

I'd recommend more looking into the resort you are staying at rather than just the final destination. Look at the budget and then spend majority of it on the resort. You want something completely over the top when it comes to customer service, luxury etc. get proper pampered and spoiled. That's what we wanted and what we got.
We stayed with a One and Only resort!

We stayed at Angel Island Resort on an island in the park, it's essentially the same level as Komodo Resort, the only thing that clinched Angel over Komodo for us was their food menu is vastly bigger. Over 6 days we wanted as varied choice as possible. We did a trip over to Rinca to see the dragons which was quite an experience as well.

Labuan Bajo town didn't look like somewhere i'd have wanted to spend more than a night or two but did have a lovely "old world" feeling to it.

Don't get me wrong, the people were really friendly...not as friendly as the Vietnamese but more friendly than the Thai's. We stayed in Sanur which is supposed to be a little more chilled but was still mental.

I think the problem is i've done Thailand twice before and Vietnam once, it felt like more of the same with the tours and scenery. I know there are vast differences between all three countries but also great similarities.

As I mentioned in a post above, Fiji has spoiled me for all future holidays, it's raised the bar really high on both trips we took.
