If anyone wonders why they use bamboo scaffolding, you need to be there during a force 10 super typhoon and see how well the bamboo holds up. Metal scaffolding would fold up like a wet paper bag.
This is complete nonsense, both Japan and Taiwan use steel scaffolding for high rise projects (though bamboo is also still used in small construction) and of course it's used in the US Gulf coast and in the Caribbean.
Bamboo does have flexibility but you're completely overstating the case there, it's used because that's what was traditional there, it's a locally available resource and it's cheap.
