I bought a Samsung 2333sw 23" monitor, and it only has 1x DVI and 1x VGA. I want to ask if there is anything i can purchase that would allow me to hook up my 360? I've tried looking on the net, but i'm unsure of what it is i'd need.

My PC has a dvi, vga and a hdmi output.

thanks in advance. :)

You can use an official VGA cable that will give you a VGA connection to go to your monitor and 2 phono leads for stereo audio
And then you can use DVI for your PC

Using the VGA connection will mean that you are able to set the 360 to its native resolution and it will look a lot better

No the monitor doesnt have attached speakers, but i do have some separate speakers, and also have a sound card.

could i plug the component cable in, and hook that upto my sound card?

Component carries video and you dont have a component input anywhere do you?

You can use the line in of your sound card with the stereo outputs of the xbox to pass stereo audio through the computer to a headset/ set of speakers connected to your computer

but doesnt the component cable also have audio cables attached?

i'm thinking maybe i could plug in the hdmi and the component cable into the 360. plug the dvi into my monitor, and use the audio cables to get sound.

does that sound possible?

and sadly i don't have any component inputs on my monitor.. just dvi and vga.

Component is the video that consists of the Y Pb and Pr connections
Composite is the video connection that consists of a yellow phono lead

Then there are the two phono connectors next to the composite connector that are red and white and these are the stereo out from the xbox

You proposed connection scheme should work
Are the phono cables going into the line in of your computer to be passed through to speakers/ a headset then?

Yeah i'm going to try and plug the phono cables into my sound card and output on either my speakers or headphones.

or maybe use that optical audio thing.. i got a whole load of cables with my asus xonar d2x sound card, so maybe theres something inside the box that will work.

also i've just read on the net, that i'll have to hack the side of the component cable off.

Unless you have an elite and the audio dongle that you get with it then you can butcher your component cable in order to use HDMI and optical out at the same time (unless you buy an audio dongle)

Check to see if the D2X has an optical input

I'm not sure mate.. the back of mine looks like this.

I have the premium xbox with the HDMI output.

Just looking through my cables and reading the manual. it mentions something about optical TOSLINK adaptor.

also on the box it mentions what's included..
2x S/PDIF TOSLINK optical adaptors
1x S/PDIF TOSLINK optical cable
