I'd be completely rebuilding something like that- take it all apart, clear out the dust and then add new thermal paste, on the GPUs too as they're probably pretty basic coolers due to the age + mid rangeness?

Then test the memory, and if they're fine go for a clean install of XP (with one GPU to start with), especially if it's currently got vista. if one of the memory sticks isn't fine, just use the one for now.
 
You'd probably get more performance waiting by a roadside, hoping an animal gets run over then throwing coins at its face. Morbid but true.

Your better seeing how much money you an save for a new pc/laptop.
