With the pending arrival of the Xbox Series X I'm curious in hearing what orientation people are looking to physically run the next gen consoles, particularly in a living room setting where the bulk of available space is traditionally horizontal?

I'm presuming at this stage it matters less to the PS5 users, but given the structure and cooling tech involved with the Series X, I'm thinking it may have to sit outside of many traditional TV cabinets.

Keeping it clean and free of dust build up, and dare I end say animal hair for pet owners :rolleyes: could be things to consider to if many people suddenly end up just putting it vertically on the floor outside of a cabinet.

The cooling won't be affected by the orientation, but both consoles are blatantly designed to be in the vertical position. See the xbox logo and ugly non removable stand on the bottom, and the 'afterthought' horizontal stand for the PS5. That and both are vertical in all their marketing/press shots.

I’ll be going vertical with my Series X. Appreciate that people want to tuck it away (out of sight/needs to go in the entertainment unit) but it’s how the consoles were meant to be so that’s what I’ll be doing.

It also looks better vertically than horizontally as well.

I want to lay it (PS5) horizontal inside the TV stand but I really don't like how it looks. I will try both but as above, they're both clearly designed to stand vertical, so I may have to bite the bullet and place it outside the stand.

Outside positioning I'm worried about the dust, more so than other devices. It shifts around and gathers on hard flooring quicker, and more visibly than on carpet, still in two minds.

Was even contemplating getting a little side stand to lift it off the floor.

Glad it's not just me wondering what they were thinking, particularly with the designs!

Horizontal. It will fit into the bottom slot of our cabinet, where the PS4 Pro currently sits.
The device has obviously been designed to sit in either orientation, so discreet in the bottom of the cabinet will suit me fine.

Vertical on my desktop. It'll be good for me, as I can plonk it where I want it as it exhausts heat upwards and not towards the wall/OLED beside it.

Both mine will be going in a TV cabinet horizontal. I'll just have to remember to open the sliding door when I'm playing to let the heat out :D

They might have allowed for each console to be used horizontally, but the obvious orientation is vertical. 95% of all the promotional material for both consoles have been in vertical.

Your preference is merely horizontal because of your cabinet. If that wasn't an issue, would you have it vertically?

Mine will be vertical on my desk, thank god I went for the biggest desk possible!! Plenty of airflow, not close to any radiators or my PC under my desk, or monitors.

Xbox Series X will be vertical, next to TV.
Just hope the cat doesn't sit on it, the day one Xbox the cat used to love sitting on it, the vertical One X he didn't seem to care much about.

His current favourite place is laying on the sound bar in front of the TV or sat in my race/flight seat is its next to a radiator.

Cats love anything warm, so a laptop/console/heater etc. The top of the SX will not be safe!!

Wont be going inside a cabinet at least, any enclosed space will probably make them overheat like the One X does.

How tight you talking though, I've got 2-3inch either side of mind, open front cabinet, enclosed rear, and haven't had any problems?

I live in a hot place, so want to do every little bit I can to blow the hot air up, so even if I preferred it horizontally (which I don't), I'd still stick it up vert.
