Horizontal or Vertical router placement?

Hi

I have a 2wire modem / router 2700HGV from BT. I'm wondering if I should have it horizontal or vertical for best signal. We have a 3 storey house with the router on the ground floor. We want the signal to go as high as possible. The only people that use wireless on the ground floor will be in the same room as the router.

Also, is it correct that the signal can be boosted by changing a parameter in the router menu?

Thanks

Pete

It doesnt really matter as long as the aerial is pointing in the direction you want the signal to travel its all good.

Surely you could try both and see what gives the best signal on your pc?

you have to put the unlocked firmware to increase signal but iirc you have to have the earlier model of 2700HGV.

Assuming you're talking about omni-directionals, you definitely don't want it pointing in the direction you want the signal to travel...

The signal travels out from the sides of the aerial so you want it pointing at a 90 degree angle to where you want the signal to travel.

the 2wire internal aerials are part of the edge of the circuit board, I found mine to be better vertical. On most versions of that router you can up the wireless output quite a bit if you unlock its firmware or use specifc tricks
