Horrible Corruption In Far Cry

Hey guys,

I already asked this once in the video cards forum, but nobody could seem to figure out what was going wrong. I've since determined that this is a software problem, and is not related to my graphics card or my drivers, so I have decided to ask here in the hopes that a fellow Far Cry addict can shed some light on this.

Before I begin, here are two screenshots of the corruption I am getting: -

So far I have tried playing the game using each individual version. Version 1.0 plays absolutely fine with no problems, but every patch after (1.1, 1.3, 1.31, 1.33, 1.4b) all give me the above corruption.

Oddly enough, the corruption only happens when I go anywhere near an opening to the outside landscape, ie. where there is vegetation. If I am inside and not looking at an opening in a wall or a door, the picture is fine.

My CPU is at stock (2.4GHz) and so is my X1800XT 256MB (625/750), I have tried using Catalyst v6.3 and v6.4 but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I have also made sure that my DirectX is fully updated to the April 2006 version, but again it's not helped.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Sincerely yours,
Exsomnis.

bad textures maybe?
tryed doing a real reinstall (ie uninstall, make sure all dirs/data is gone, then reinstall)

Have done two fresh installs of Windows in an effort to get this working, and countless re-installs of Far Cry. Pretty sure it's not that at this point. :(

geomtry errors? try reducing gpu speed and cpu see if it makes a difference
I'll give it a try, but you understand when I say that I am simply going to chuck this game in the bin if that's the solution. :)

I'm using 2GB of Corsair Value DDR400, it's brand new only a few weeks old, and passes Memtest just fine. Got any other suggestions? This is frankly making me want to bang my head on my desk in frustration. :( Not sure why v1.0 would work but not any of the patches.

P.S. Underclocking didn't make any improvement, meh. :(

Will do. Any theories on why v1.0 works fine though? :( Scratching my head and Ubisoft seem to be in bed.

Update: I tried using 1GB at a time in my RAM slots, and I tried using my old pair of 512MB DDR333s, but it didn't make a difference. :( I am going to reinstall my graphics drivers later and see if the game works with Catalyst Control Centre, since I'm currently using DD + WDM + ATi Tray Tools.

Looks like an LSD issue. I had problems with this but patching to latest hdr version fixed it.

used drive cleaner?
I use Drivercleaner Professional in safe mode religiously. On that note I just uninstalled Catalyst Display Driver, WDM Integrated Driver, and ATi Tray Tools then installed Catalyst 6.4 Control Centre Edition. The corruption has entirely gone away now, and HDR works fine, but I cannot get AA to activate. I'm going to see what Google comes up with about that, I am probably just missing a setting.

Have you got the latest farcry patch?
I tried it with v1.0, v1.1, v1.3, v1.33, v1.4b and nothing seemed to work except installing Catalyst Control Centre. :(

Using Catalyst Control Centre instead of ATi Tray Tools has seemed to work, much to my disappointment (since now I cannot overclock my graphics card.) I still can't get antialiasing to work with HDR in the 1.4b patch though.

Any ideas on that?

Sorry im a Nvidia gimp :(

I have no idea about HDR and AA at the same time on my puny 7800GTX :)

No worries, I've figured it out anyway.

The commands to enable HDR+AA are "\r_HDRRendering 7" and "\r_FSAA 2", I was thinking that the two in the AA option meant "which level of AA do you want?" but you actually select that in the menu. I am so dumb sometimes. :)

Well, the HDR and AA are enabled now with no corruption. Thanks a lot for the help guys, I'm about to post screenies in the 800x600 thread. :D
