I purchased this 780 the other day

I'm getting brutal micro stuttering and as soon as i run a game the fans kick in full blast and its ridiculously loud. This confuses me a it as it says it's 'vastly quieter' on the box... but maybe this card is just really loud ?

Not that that matters, what i care about is the performance, its appalling. I've tried 5 different drivers and its the same on all of them.

I even installed a windows 7 partition (I'm running 8.1) to see if it ran better on that but it doesn't.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be ? Im using 1 6pin and 1 6pin+2pin power cables to connect it (the same i used for my 780ti)... could this be the issue ? am i perhaps plugging in too many cables and overpowering it ?

I honestly have no idea whats causing it to run so bad, it's doing my head in.

ASUS 780 should be very quiet. I had the 780 ti and it was one of the quietest cards I've had and ran at 70C.

What are your temps?

Not sure of temps, will have to check.

i've used the last 5 major driver releases from nvidia, same issue with all of them.

Did you need the 780 for any particular reason? for just a bit more you can pick up a 780ti or a 970 and same price

The 970 is actually cheaper than that, unless there was an offer there isn't anymore.

I'd return and get a 970 myself.

If you read what he put he went from a 780ti to a 780.

Question is WHY ??!! :p

need to know which drivers you have tried and what your PC kit is. It needs all them power plugs its fine. Make sure they are both firmly plugged in. If you had a 780ti in it then moved to a 780 it would rule out the PSU unless its dorked in between changing cards somehow.

Sounds more like a duff card.

Use gpu-z and run the ? test located next to the PCIE information to see what speed the card is running at and to view the temps.
