Horrible ping spikes and loss of network

Hello all,

I've moved to the US and since I've switched to wifi (shudder) I've been having issues, only in the last week of the several months I've been here.

At first, I had a USB wireless dongle which worked fine, but then started giving me horrible driver issues. So I got a PCI TPI wireless card, again, works great.

However, at any given time I'll get random ping spikes and sometimes drops of network. The wireless connection stays solid and doesn't state that it's dropped. It's done this on both the USB dongle and the wifi card...

Resource monitor leaves a lot to be desired in trying to find the cause, any good tools to use to see what's going on during these spikes? I've tried going through apps open at the time and closing them, but as it's so random, I can't say for sure any specific thing is causing it.

Sounds like it could be wireless interference. Have you tried changing the wireless channel? You could pop a wifi analyzer on your mobile to check your not using the same channel as a neighbour. Does wired still work ok without any drops?

How many rooms between you and the router?

Any nearby neighbouring access points? Choose a different wifi channel.

I'd consider buying a Unifi AP-AC-Lite and using this for wifi instead of your router's wifi.
