Hi guys,

I have a problem with my BT infinity internet ( 20mb )

This problem occurs on my pc, brothers pc and my laptop, so it isn't specific to one computer. All are connected wireless,

They're all running windows 7 so hopefully you guys can understand the layout.

Basically when I'm browsing on the internet, at least 2 -4 times I'm on, my internet fails.

A yellow warning icon appears over my internet access icon on the bottom right.

I right click to troubleshoot and it usually fixes it (sometimes I need to fully restart my router)

The reason is usually "problem with default gateway or access point" although it can range to different reasons from time to time.

Note this problem happens much more regularly when I'm watching football streams and youtube videos. The YT videos in particular would load a small fraction and then my internet would fail.

This is driving me crazy so I was hoping you guys would have some sort of solution.

I wasn’t aware that BT offered a 20Mbps Infinity product, or is that just the speed your line manages to achieve?

Do all of the machines lose their wireless connections simultaneously?

Have you tried at least one of them with a cabled connection for comparison?

Have you used a tool such as inSSIDer to check for other wireless networks and the channels they might be using?

Thanks for the reply. Yes the internet fails simultaneously on all machines. I havnt tried the wired option althouggh I could try when I get home. I think its a wireless issue. Again the tool you listed is also an option when I get home. Any idea from what I explained could be wrong with my internet? I'm posting this on my phone so sorry in advance for the wall of text

Does the VDSL (white) modem stay in sync when the problem occurs? Will help to narrow down if it's a router issue or not.

This sounds like the HH3 problem that quite a few people have commented about.

As per the previous post check to make sure the BT VDSL modem has still got DSL sync with the DSL LED on the unit being a solid green. If so then I suspect the HH3.;)

Sorry for my stupidity but what exactly do you mean when you say stay in sync?

The light on my router remains green even when the internet fails on all my computers.

I downloaded inSSIDer. Not quite sure what I'm meant to do with it. Could one of you explain what it's meant to achieve and any info from the program you'd like me to post?

Thanks

Adam, the white BT Openreach Box (that is attached to the HH3) is your VDSL2 Modem, there is green LEDS on this Power, DSL, LAN1, LAN2.

The LED that says DSL above it, this should be a solid green. If this starts to flash when the internet drops out then its a problem with the DSL part of the line. Just have a look before you turn off the HomeHub if this lights a solid green.

But as I say it sounds like the often mentioned on BT Forums HH3 problem of the Wireless dropping of.

It could be a the HH or it could be some interference causing it to drop, Microwaves are good at doing this as most operate at around 2.2Ghz not to far away from the 2.4Ghz frequency's that WiFi uses.

Cheers
T

Thanks for the clarification. If it's a problem with the DSL, how would I go about fixing it?

I don't think it is interference though. It seems as though when I'm watching streaming videos the internet "overloads" and just shuts off. I'll probably ring BT in the coming days to get this **** sorted because I'm fed up!

If the DSL light on the VDSL modem goes off, it is losing sync and would need to be reported to BT as a fault

Dodgy wireless connection?

Try the laptop wired for a day, and see what happens when the other machines lose connection. If you're still online, you have your cause :)

I think its just the hub problem. When i had infinity installed in the rented flat my connection would just randomly drop and refuse to connect. In the end i bought some powerline adaptors to try and the connection never once dropped :D
