hey

Got a 360 about 3 weeks ago for my birthday and so far im enjoying it. My parents just brought a 40" HD LCD screen for the living room which ive been playing saints row on. Its a lot nicer seeing it in HD on a 40inch screen compared to my 15inch portable in my room.

However the framerate totally sucks! The 360 and tv are in 1080i mode and the slow down is terrible. Every game i look at now is either crap or is very good but has serious framerate issues. I'm looking to buy GOW which is supposed to be excellent but also been looking at Tony Hawks Project 8 which apparently has bad framerate issues.

Why have so many 360 games so laggy and jerky? The worst ive seen so far have got to be Oblivion and Saints row.

Is it poorly coded games or just the console struggling? And BTW when i had the 360 on my 15" tv i could hardly notice the lag but the 40" its VERY VERY visible.

:(

Drop it down to 720p I often get frame rate issues with 1080i. IMO 720p looks better anyway. Also most of the time its down to poor programming especially in Saints Row's case.

Just to echo the two posts above switch the resolution to 720p (progressive scan).

Out of curiosity I ran RB6:Vegas in 1080i last night and I did notice 'slowdown' compared to 720p. However this is the only game I noticed it.

I assume from your post that you have never played oblivion on the pc? It suffers identical frame rate issues and loading times as the 360 even on a top end system.

how do you change the resolution of games??

You dont in the games themselves, you change what resolution the 360 displays at in the dashboard. 720P is pretty much the best choice unless you have VGA.

not had any issue on my sharp 26inch lcd with GOW or Pro Evo at 1080i over component or on my 19 inch monitor over vga, as others have said i would assume its down to the games

Not really because the OP isn't complaining about the same issue I have (ie. my preference for 60fps). Also there have been several threads by other people over the last year, about 360 framerate stuttering and/or tearing so this is nothing new.

eg...

u lie, u sp00ged your underwear as soon as u saw this topic

Not sure if this still applies with HD screens as I'm poor ;) but make sure that in the System blade, it is set to PAL 60 rather than 50.

Friend had a similar problem and changing this solve the framerate issues.

As far as I know the tearing only happens when using VGA cable and you cannot choose PAL60 when using VGA, as far as I know.
