Am going horse racing at uttoxeter on sat with some mates, I know nothing about horses & wouldnt know a good one from a bad one  so was wondering if anyone knows of any websites with some tips on or could help me out with picking one that may actually win a race :D

There's a lot of things to look out for when it comes to horse racing.

1) Don't always go by the form, you could have a horse thats won 4 out of its last 5 races, but it could have been racing total donkeys.

2) Look out for drops/increases in trip and classes.

3) Trainer/Jockey combinations. Prime example of this was at Newton Abbot a few weeks ago, Philip Hobbs and Richard Johnson usually do well there, first race, short-priced favourite, and this horse was 25/1. I pointed it out to my dad, and sure enough, it won.

4) Take note if its raced against any of its opponents on the day in the past, the going, trip, etc.

Probably loads more i've missed but i'm nearly asleep at my keybaord, will update it tomorrow :)

I'd also advise buying a racing post and/or timeform guide at the course. They're about £5ish but give you every little detail about every horse. Racing post is very good for tips, and usually gives a very good write-up on the horse, and their predicitions. Think thats about it, good luck :)

Actually - coming to think of it, dont go trying to pick 20/1 winners all day, or backing odds-on favourites, you never get anywhere. Try and pick a horse that 6/1, 7/1 something around that and back it in the tote offices to be placed only. You're likely to get a better payout than backing it each way. i.e if you back a horse at £10 each-way that was 6/1 and it came 2nd, you'd get £22, a £2 profit. If you did £10 on the tote to be placed, you dont double your bet, if it wins or comes in (usually) the first 3, it could pay anywhere between £1.70 and £3, so you'd get that x10. :D

Have a look at Topspeed's tips in the Racing Post. I always take them into account when backing a horse.

I havn't got time to search for some tips for you myself but make sure you have a couple of quid on Sir Percy in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. ;)

You also might want to have a look at buying the Sportsman newspaper. It's apparently pretty good.
