Hi All

After taking my two dogs out for their last walk of the night (11:30pm ish) I heard what I thought was wind in the trees.

Realising that it wasn't in fact windy I investigated further.

It would seem that one of my neighbours is watering his garden late at night even though we have had a hosepipe ban in place for months.

Should I report him?

And if yes who too?

Thanks

Rich

Are you serious? He's your neighbour, unless you don't get on, no. Maybe he isn't aware? How about reminding him before getting him a hefty fine?

Personally i wouldn't because i'm too lazy, and it wouldn't bother me that much as long as he's at least trying to hide it. If he starts flaunting it in public i might think different.

It Depends on what you are like as a person anyway, do you want to shop him? Why are you asking here!? If you must report him, phone your council/water board i would have thought.

Why would you want to report him? It's not his fault the water companies can't keep hold of their water.

No one likes a grass - especially when they're grassing on people who aren't doing anything wrong.

a neighbour of mine a few doors down had thier sprinkler going for 3+ hours, which royally LANGUAGE! me off as I look out of my window watching my lawn turning to dust....seriously considering it if they do it again. Bans are in place for a reason.

##phew, feel a bit better now##

rant over

We should use a system like they have in Canada.

Houses with a odd number on mon-wed-fri-sun, evens every other day etc. Beats just banning people using hosepipes.

Off Topic:

How do find out if you have a Hosepipe ban. My area has one but i want a website to refer to so i know when the ban will be lifted.

On Topic:

I wouldnt report him.
Just remind him that there is a hosepipe ban. However, if he's watering his garden late at night then he probably knows there is a ban and is trying to be covert with his garden watering.

If you dont like him.... Shop him!

Make sure the SA go round his house and smash his garden gnomes while you are at it.

He is watering his garden at night so the water doesn't evaporate or scorch the plants in the sun.

Check your water suppliers website :)

Bans are there for a reason. When your street are on standpipes ask yourself if you should have reported him....

Mind you if everybody just turned the tap off whilst doing their teeth we wouldn't need a ban !

The reason that Thames has leaking pipes is:

1) When it was privatised things like the state of the distribution network were glossed over to make the shareprice good.

2) Once privatised, Ofwat wouldn't let Thames raise prices to cover the cost of replacing the network as it would make the 'public' aka voters unhappy (plus no-one wants half of London streets dug up cos of the chaos if would cause).

3) Thames is owned by a German company RWE that will be sucking Thames dry (no pun intended) to earn back the money it paid for the company.

So it is not entirely Thames' fault.

Would be quite petty to grass on someone for using some water really, but if it really bothers you then report him.

I should think it's fairly obvious he knows the ban is in place if he is doing it late at night when nobody else would see it. 11:30pm is hardly an ideal time to go water the lawn.

actually late at night is the best time to water the lawn. There is less evaporation and plants take in more water.

TBH i wouldn't shop your neighbour in because although he's using a hosepipe. He's not leaving it unattended like a sprinkler. I don't know where you are, but over here i can water the garden using a watering can but not a hosepipe. Not much diffrence in it.

I love people that ask for Moral advice on a forum full of unemployed, student layabouts. :D

Yeah like that other guy said Shop him in, call 999 Get the browshirts round there to rough up his family and pets. Say hes part of al qaeda, plant drugs under his rose beds. Pull out the poloroid collection of his Mrs at it with the milkman, stick is head in a vice. Rack him!

Im afraid this one is down to you

squeeler oink oink,

grass!

jobsworth.

And yes late night is the best time to water plants as it stops damage from evapouation in very strong light. snitch! ;)

I mean its pretty petty, you must have better things to worry about. For instance, what to have for tea should pray more strongly on your mind than the horror of your neighbour subverting the state by his noctural clematis hydrating perversion! :D

I thought it was best to water them early morning so leaves had a chance to dry off during the day and avoid fungal disease.
