Hosepipe bans for the rest of us. Meanwhile wrong forum

Hosepipe bans?

I had an email from the water company last week.

"It's been the driest start to the year since 1976, and you may be wondering how this will impact water resources and your water supply.
We're currently experiencing a prolonged period of dry weather, with temperatures that reached highs of 40 degrees in July. This means we're now reliant on receiving significant rainfall during the autumn and winter to help replenish our supplies.
Not your typical dreary British summer...

We wanted to let you know that it's unlikely we'll need to introduce any usage restrictions this year"

But if you read pretty much any newspaper, the inference is that the entire country is under a hosepipe ban and that it's the end of the world as we know it.

*sigh*

Similar message here but some of west Wales is under a ban i believe

Surely a flood like that must have given some warning beforehand, such as a small leak that was ignored for weeks?
Nope. A burst like that is usually as dramatic and sudden as it sounds. A trickle would have gradually increased as the pipe failure degraded.
I don't know the cause, but I suspect either a failed joint or more likely someone else struck the pipe. That happens relatively often with developers rushing to knock a new build out.
