Hosting advice!

I used to have (for 3 years) a hosting package with a very dodgy looking outfit that I found on ebay. £12 per year for 25GB disk and 10GB per mnth transfer.

I used to use the webspace to host a backup image for the UK TiVo operating system which I would release on request from users who needed to rebuild their TiVo's following a dead disk! TiVo Image request thread

Yesterday the host had all their servers taken offline because one in the cluster was used to host a phishing bank script.

Anyhows I'd like a new home for my TiVo image files so the requirements are some space (3 x 350mb images) and enough bandwidth to cope with about 20 downloads per month. I don't want the file to be accessible to anyone without login details as the operating system is actually copyrighted and my release of it keeps it's sharing controlled which TiVo US are aware of.

Can anyone recommend a suitable service?

Dreamhost have shedloads of disk space and bandwidth for cheap price (with coupon). Their name is banded around here quite a lot. It's a US company, not that it will matter to you where the host is. Don't buy without a coupon, which I think you can find on their forums.

Just about everyone on the dreamhost forums has a coupon code listed in their signature. Just be sure to get one of the $97 off ones..

I don't know if I would recommend them though as download speeds are rather slow unless you have dedicated hosting. They're great for web hosting but not so much for file hosting.

Dreamhost are amazing for the price, I used the $97 discount code and got my hosting for £11 for the whole year. Download speeds for me were 400Kb/s on my 10MB Virgin media connection. Over all for the price they are great, theres enough disk space for anyone. They don't use cpanel but I found theres to offer everything cpanel offers and after about 5 minutes you will find its really nice to use.

I would suggest dreamhost if you want cheap hosting which is pretty fast and has a lot more disk space than any other UK host I know.

I don't think OcUK let you post cupon codes, but go onto the dream host forum and check peoples signatures for them, or search google.
