Hello all, I know this has more than likely been asked loads but...

I want to register a domain - is there a way to make this completely anonymous? I don't mean from the company I'm registering it with but I mean from other people out there? I don't wanted to get dox.

Hosting - I would like to possibly host files and stuff not huge ones so I may if it takes of get a fair bit of traffic, I'm also worried about DDoS attacks, what if I get attacked and it uses up all my bandwidth then some and I get charged for this? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks

Yes - if you register as an individual, you can do so without revealing any details.

Hosting - You should be fine - if you're very worried, consider getting dedicated rack space.

It might be worth looking at a CDN like Cloudflare if you're worried about traffic and uptime. Likewise you can use 'private whois' companies, nsdesign.co.uk springs to mind, if you want to be anonymous.

Edit - Can't remember what the T&Cs are with Cloudflare, but some CDNs are web-page oriented and are strict with file storage sites.

Do any of these hosting companies allow you to upload larger files, maybe patches etc that may be 50mb or so. Also what about Forums, this is a must I want to have forums is there anything I specifically need to look for?

Majority of hosts will have storage and bandwidth limits and you can do as you wish as long as you stay within them (obviously hosted material/file(s) have to comply with T&Cs - ie: most won't allow you to host adult content etc). You only tend to have issues with 'unlimited' providers (nothing is free); certainly I’ve had my fair share of run-ins with Heart.
It might be worth thinking about VPS/Dedi hosting over a shared hosting package if you believe you will be pulling a fair amount of traffic, as you could cause issues with other users on a shared host.

I'd look at Tsohost, Vooservers and Vidahost for hosting.

OldCoals is right but only 'as standard'. As I said earlier though, for a small charge (usually £5-10 annually per domain) there are a number of companies that offer WHOIS masking on domain names and ALL you details won't show up on a WHOIS (it’ll be the providers instead). Good example is lulzsecurity.com (simply do a WHOIS on their domain).
