Hosting + email on the same domain name

I will be working on a small site for a friend and he needs to point his domain name to the hosting nameservers but then have all his emails delivered to an exchange mail box. How is it possible to set this up? I would imagine he points the nameservers at the domain for the web hosting part but not sure how he sets up the mails to go to exchange server. Is this MX records or something?

yes, with in the control panel for the company that you point the name servers to, should have a DNS section and you point the MX record to his IP address where his exchange server is located

Excellent thanks for that. He mentioned something about an IPS tag. Isn't that just needed if transferring a domain between registrars?

Yes, unless you want to move the domain holding to another provider, that doesnt need to be changed, only the name servers for DNS management
