Think this is better in here than the network forum but feel free to move it.

Im trying to write a report encouraging management to host our version of Moodle in house. but i need to make it look like a fairish report.
so i need some disadvantages of hosting it internally but nothign to drastic that will make them not want to do it.

any sugestions

Why do you want to host it in house? Is it to be accessed from the web or is it to be some kind of intranet site? What kind of connectivity and power continuity do you have?

Moodle its a VLE, It needs to be accessed from the web, we host our website and other services in house, so i assume we have the proper electrical fail safes, not to sure about bandwidth i will have to check this out but dont think it will be a problem.
To be honest if we host it in house it will be hopefully my server so i can learn more and develop my job more.
Im trying to sell it on cost as after the initial purchace of the server we wont then have to keep paying for hosting. And because we can get our hands on it then we will have more control and that over updates, and such

The main disadvantages of in-house hosting are the bandwidth usage and cost of keeping the server(s) running 24/7. To me the benefits more than outweigh them, the control you get of the server alone is well worth it in my opinion.

Part of my previous job was looking after the Blackboard VLE (Developing addons for it and looking after the web and db servers) It would have been almost impossible to do if we weren't hosting in-house.

Plus of course, if you host it in-house and most of the access to it is on-campus, it means you don't have all that traffic going out of your network.
