Hello
Got asked a raft of questions by someone with a small business regarding hosting their stuff somewhere else. While I was able to answer the generalities, I don't actually know of good hosting providers I can recommend as I don't deal with that generally. So, I'm hoping those more knowledgable/experienced on here, will respond with comments/recommendations/suggestions for quality hosting providers to consider.
The requirements are more or less as follows:
- ASP.Net website (I think there might still be some classic ASP stuff in there as well)
- SQL Server database (2000 at the moment)
- Probably a dedicatated server required (? or is it?) due to some third party software needing to be installed on the server (e.g. stuff for generating PDF's, drawing specialised graphs, and a management application which itself is a windows app for part of the website.)
- Remote Desktop/Terminal Services Administrator access to allow management/use of the third party software etc.
- Initial bandwidth requirements are very low, so probably any package providing say a minimum of several GB per month (5-10?) should be more than sufficient.
- Need database and server/website backup & restore services (disaster recovery.)
Nice to have's:
- Development services for maintaining and updating the website. (But it's understood that for that they might/probably would need to use a third party.)
Any comments gratefully received.
