Hosting services

Hi chaps,

Any recommendations for web/server hosting? I'm after a LAMP server to run a wiki (specifically MediaWiki), photo album and a few other random bits.

I don't mind whether it's managed or whether I have to set up everything myself. The thought did occur to me to build a super cheap HTPC and use that as a server at home on my DSL but when I work out hardware, electricity costs and the like it doesn't seem worth it?

I have been using VPSLatch for a few years (US-based servers as they are cheaper) and have been very happy with the service for $19 a month.

i have always used heart internet in the past, so i dont really have anything to judge them against. but i have never had any issues and their ticket support system has always been good.

Vidahost - unbelievable service since I moved there. Very quick turnaround of tickets and they go out of their way to help if they can

on a side note to heart internet, i had 1 year of reseller hosting for £1. you get the first month for £1 in their offer, then after that i said i wanted to end it. they asked why, i explained because i didnt feel i had the time to invest in it properly, so they gave me 3 months reseller package free. this period ended, so i contacted them again to cancel, and the same was offered. this went on for a year or just over, until i decided i wasnt ever going to really use it so refused their generousity. something i now regret lol

And you want either Vidahost or TSOhost. Both extremely highly recommended, (I believe one of the chaps who runs Vidahost is a member on this forum)

Depends what you want. I have a dedicated server from www.kimsufi.co.uk 13.99+vat a month for the cheapest server. Hosted in France, which is the only downside.

Does the job for me, I run a radio station, 3 websites, emails etc. from it

- worked out cheaper for me to do it this way.
