Hosts file and blocking websites problem

Trying to block some websites in Vista. Managed to edit and save the hosts file but when i go and test it to see if it's blocked i can still get on the website. Any ideas whats going wrong? Thanks

it flushes the DNS... (of old records)

Yes it's safe to do.

You need to make sure you've not just saved your edited hosts file as a txt too.

Possibly empty your cache too.

Thats done the trick. I was saving it as a .txt before
