Hi all,

I've recently built my new computer with the following components:

Intel Q6600 G0 2.4GHz processor
Asus P5N32-E SLi nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
2 x 8800GTX in SLi mode
2GB Corsair Dominator PC2-8500C5 DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

Powered by: Enermax Galaxy 1000W EGX1000EWL ATX2.2 Modular PSU

It's been about 4 years since I built my last computer, so I feel like a total noob again. Saying that though, everything is installed fine and working nice - except for the fact that it all runs hot.

In idle, both graphics cards are around 50 C and under stress in Crysis, up to 80 C. This is roasting! (It actually heats up the room). I'm currently on a standard (no overclocking) set up, so for me, it just feels wrong. When I do start to overclock, how hot will it be then? Additionally, the CPU (with stock cooler) is about 25 C idle and up to 45/50 C under stress.

I have a very good coolermaster case - it's about 4 years old, but has acres of space and plenty of fans pumping air both onto the components and extracting it again, so although the fans may be old (could need replacing), I don't think they're the problem.

Basically, I'm looking for advice on this one, because it all seems wrong. My 3D mark 06 results are 11374, which is quite low imo. I've tried to do a little overclocking using the nvidia tuner program (only doing an auto setup on coarse) and it doesn't increase much ... CPU from 2.4 to 2.67 and there are marginal increases on GPUs. Resulting 3Dmark is 13500. So what am I doing wrong - what could I be doing better ... I'd appreciate any advice.

q6600 stock fans are rubbish, i sometimes had to flick mine to get it going after my computer kept turnig off. i noticed it was my fan after touching the heatsink and burning my finger! i stuck a tuniq on and all is well, idleing at 19-22 and load at 29. gpu temps are fine.

i odnt know about the 3dmark points, i used to get 11k on 1 card though for some reason have lost 3k!

Temps are fine for SLI GTXs. Some 8800 go well into the 90s under load.

The score is likely held back a bit by driver settings. Most people who upload there scores onto the web do so with everything set to performance in driver settings

Drivers ... yeah, I suppose I should have mentioned that too ... I'm running out of the box drivers at this point. I wanted a stable system before going further, and yes, drivers is one of the steps.

So, I do need to get the latest nvidia drivers for the mobo and gfx cards.

So you think a tuniq tower is a good cooling solution for the cpu? Is it this one:

I've also seen recommendations for the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme:

But these require an extra fan to be placed, and they also look quite bulky - could this be an issue?

extra? i replaces the old one. i found it a right pain to fit and yes its bulky. had to take it apart again as i couldnt get the atx cable in after :o and i think i broke the fan control but it seems to work well

So, all in all, I could do with the Tuniq tower as the cpu cooler and that's the only thing needed (besides the drivers of course)?

Can you also recommend a set of high speed/performance fans for the case itself.
