Hey guys, i've got an annoying i7 920 C0 chip here, wondered if someone could help. I moved from an Antec 900 to the NZXT H2 and the temperatures have gone up a few degrees, enough to worry about.
Rig specs:
i7 920 C0 @ 3.91Ghz (206x19) @ 1.325v Vcore, 1.325v QPI/DRAM, 1.82v PLL
Coolermaster V6GT (2x120mm 1200-2200rpm) with MX-3
Asus P6T Deluxe (v1)
9Gb OCZ Gold @ 1650Mhz 8,8,8,24,1T @ 1.66v
Asus Xonar Essence STX
Asus GTX 580 Matrix Platinum @ 900/1800/4400 @ 1.116v
Geforce 9600GT (stock)
OCZ Vertex 2e 60Gb
2x1Tb WD Black RAID-0
OCZ ZX1000
NZXT H2 (3x120mm (now 4, added one in the top 5.25" bays) 1200rpm intake, 1x120mm 1200rpm + 1x140mm 1500rpm exhaust)
Idle temperatures
38-45c
Load temperatures (Prime 95)
86-93c
Load temperatures (IBT)
90-95c
As you can see, for the overclock and voltages i'm running something isn't right here...
I have reseated the HSF twice using blob (rice grain size) and currently on line method, neither of which have improved the temperatures.
Taking the side panel off helps by a few degrees but nothing worth the noise.
I bought this chip back in October 2008, and it's never really been able to pass 4Ghz, it's not a very good 920. I'm starting to think that it's worse than i first though, maybe an IHS issue? Anybody heard of naturally hot i7 920 C0s?

.As for a better cooler, what exactly? The V6GT is reviewed as being fantastic, i'd have to go into water which can get expensive. I will keep an eye on the Corsair H series, see if there's any good deals to get.
