Can run 3.8Ghz on 1.425v and 1.45v on both of my L629B E6600, but these chips are SMOKING HOT :( Temps even at 3.6 1.3675v both are hitting 75C -80C in TAT and one actually hit the 85C limit and shut down, this is with a TTBT and 100CFM (forgot which) fan at 7volt. Anyone think a SilenX 120 90CFM and OCZ Vindicator will cool it down better? Airflow is not an issue and it even idles at 39-41C. My E6400 ES at 3Ghz and E6300 A at 3.2Ghz 1.4v both idle around the same but only load up to about 51C in TAT in the same case.

Lapped one already, should've mentioned that. Made a 5C difference but still in the 70s. Interesting development though, same case and cooling but different board (Bad Axe 2) loads about 69C tops with the lapped cpu, all readings are taken from TAT btw, other chip still high 70s.

Sounds like your TTBT is just being overwhelmed by the heat generated by those big clocks?

Changing the fan might help a bit, but before you do that can you jury rig another one on to it somehow to see if it helps?

If it makes you feel any better, I have a hot chip too... :( Sitting at 36idle at the moment, which I think is pretty high for stock speeds

furnace, those temps are fine! If the load temp in your sig is correct, then that's very good.

Comparing temps is always a bad idea I think, as system temps are not usually all that accurate even relative to your own computer, never mind anybody elses!!

And that's before you factor in things like ambient temps and fans/cases that others might be using.

And, don't forget the boast factor too. Some people over report their max clocks, and under report their temps! ;)

Getting an Ultra 120, hopefully it'll soothe the beast :D

Tried the stock E6600 cooler for laughs, at stock speed. 65C under Orthos load and 71C TAT, definetly a hot stepping :D
I think you can send them back if they hit a certain temperature - you could email intel and tell them how hot it's running, and that you think it's faulty..?

I have an Ultra 120 Extreme on mine, it's a good cooler but my temps still aren't as low as I hoped :p

I don't know if these temps are OK to start overclocking on  I figured I'd just get a new processor when the price cuts come in

This L629B stepping has a rep for being a bit warm but overclocks like a champ on low volts. Hopefully the ultra tames it a bit.

Seems it may have done the trick, at 3.6Ghz 1.375v and so far 4hrs orthos stable with temps around 59C, TAT goes up to 64C. This is with the Ultra 120 and silenx 90CFM fan which i gotta say is really doing a swell job and is quiet.
