I have a sony vaio BX laptop, with a Pentium M processor. However, once running for about 1 or 2 hours it becomes VERY VERY Hot. It actually becomes really uncomfortable to rest my palms on it. I think its mainly the HDD that heats up as its the side on which my HDD is thats most hot. Is there any program i can download to increase the speed of the fans??
Or any way to get rid of this VERY hot temperatures.

Laptop cooler, it's a slab with a few fans inside. If it's getting red hot I would take it to be inspected. Lithium batteries don't like to get toasty. I wouldn't leave it on mains power unattended.

Was expecting to click this thread and see some weird kind of laptop porn :p

Download Notebook Hardware Control and upload a screenshot of the temperature page so we can see what's what. http://www.pbus-167.com/nhc/nhc.htm#anchor_download

While you're at it, might want to have a go at undervolting your CPU. If it's anything like mine (Pentium M 1.73) you should be able to really drop voltage. I run mine at 1.052v at 1.73Ghz, and 0.716v at 800Mhz (stock is 1.3xxV/1.0xxV respectively). In combination with I8KFANGUI (http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html) I run my laptop completely passive most of the time, even on full load!

Hope this helps :)

edit - Sorry, forgot, I8KFanGUI only works for Dells :o

also you might want to clean out cooling intake/outtake, probably heatpipe with fins, perhaps the fins are blocked with dust?

What he said. In certain cases, it makes A LOT of difference. If not, get a laptop cooler.

Wow, cheers for NHC link, got my idle voltage down from 0.82v to 0.71v :) Full speed only hits 0.84v now :D

I love my Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) Pentium-M :D

Im sorry?, is there somthing you want to tell us :D

Yea get a notebook cooler = problem solved make sure you get one with fans. I have one without fans which does the job for me, but my laptop runs rather cool anyway.
