I have my ram running at 970 5-5-5-15 @ 2.2v and under stress testing it is too hot to touch so i'm guessing at least 70ºC  Does this cause any problems/risks to the mobo, other components or the RAM itself?

Have a DS3R and cant really understand why the slots are so close together that the RAM heatspreaders actually touch...

Hot heatsinks means they're doing their job.

You can put a fan over them if you want to as you're running them at 2.2v.

Mine were too hot to touch when i had them too. An IR temp monitor put them at 56 Degrees. Hot, but worked fine so i was happy.

Mine are ROASTING and have been for well over a year, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

My Geil were the same. Ended up sitting a fan over them as i had 4x1gb sticks installed and as you can imagine their proximity was not helping their temperatures one little bit.

The Akasa spot cool fan would probably be a decent 'quiet' start!

Moved over to OCZ and found them to run far cooler! When i upgraded to 8gb i took no chances and added one of those OCZ XTC coolers. Very quiet and incredibly effective... might be worth considering too! :)
