Hot Spare - Light Indication?

Added a hot spare drive to a raid 5 array but I've noticed there it no light indication on the drive bay for it, is this normal?

Hard to say when you haven't said what the controller / enclosure is. The behaviour of the hot spare channel will be documented in the user guide somewhere.

The hot spares in our HP array have no light indications, the hot spares in our compellent do, so as above it'll be different given your hardware.

just to add, dont depend on the lights alone.

We have a HP Left Hand SAN, one of the disks had failed , but to look at the front, all lights green....
