Could someone recommend a nice hotel in Manchester?

Taking the wife in the new year to see the stage version of The little shop of horrors at the royal exchange, & planning on making a weekend of it with a little shopping etc.

Would like something central so we don't need to drive, but apart from that I'm open to ideas.

Depends on budget really. The Marriott Victoria and Albert is lovely and probably my go to Manchester hotel.

Great John Street is amazing if you want a treat but can be pricey depending on whether you get a deal or not. Breakfast was also very good from memory.

Both the above are a little less central than others but certainly close enough to not be an issue.

I was a little dissapointed by the Hilton, sure the building is impressive and the room was alright with good views but the breakfast and staff were poor for me.

The Abode is lovely (if quite small rooms) and they do deals including Michael Caines restaurant which could be a good option.

It's quite scary actually how many hotels i've stayed in in Manchester (always like to try somewhere different)

Just thought, the Midland is also very good.

Whatever you do don't stay at the Palace, it's bloody horrific.

Radisson Blu and the Midland are nice hotels. About five minutes walk from the Royal Exchange as well.

Renaissance Marriott. It's literally across the road.

edit: Go through booking.com or somewhere. I paid about £140 last time.

The Midland is my favorite hotel in Manchester. Gorgeous rooms, beds are super comfy, good breakfast, cant get any more central, very close to the Christmas Markets, Town Hall, King Street, St Annes Square etc

Dont bother with the Hilton Deansgate (over priced and not the best location)

I dont rate the Radisson Blu Edwardian either. Its just down the road from The Midland but the rooms are not as nice and for the price I would defo stay in The Midland instead.

The Mercure Manchester Hotel is okay. Used to be the Piccadilly Hotel and is on Piccadilly Gardens. The rooms are nice and the location is very central. Problem is Piccadilly Gardens is a *little* but rough :/

Another personal favorite is Roomzzz Manchester. You get an apartment room, so you have a little kitchen, a dinning area etc. This hotel was originally owned by a large prominent Manchester Chinese family - The Yan Sing (the BEST Chinese in Manchester by FAR), but Roomzzz bought them out. Because of that, every room is different and has a distinct Far East flavor - I love this hotel too :)

If you want any more info or to run any by me, give me a shout :)

Malmaison? They usually have some decent room, meal, drink deals I'm off there in a week or so for the 2nd time

I've stayed at the Best Western and the Premier Inn in Altringham and the Premier Inn was by far the best of the 2.

I'd recommend it.

I stayed in the Hilton Deansgate and it was excellent. Modern rooms and stunning views of the city from the floor to ceiling windows
