Hotmail replaced by Outlook.com

Just give it 20 minutes or so while it reconfigures.

I don't think that will make any difference. When I log in to hotmail now using my old account it says that the account doesn't exist.

I tried re-adding my account but it has to verify. As my mail is undeliverable I can't do that and am totally stuck.

I made a mistake, I don't have a hotmail or msn address as my Microsoft account was created using my domain email address so when I logged into outlook.com it took me to MSN's inbox (hotmail) which then changed to outlook.com's new mailbox...nice!

The option to create am outlook.com alias was hidden away in mail settings so I created a new account using [email protected] and at that point I found out that there was a feature to change email name in settings so I changed it to [email protected] thinking it would free up first.last....no, it did not.

Realising that I'd created a bit of a pinch for myself I closed this new account and of course it says that everything should be gone in a few days but also mentioned 270 days... Logged out, logged in with my Microsoft account, went to create an alias but was told both the above aliases were in use.....

Bah! I'll have to wait however long it takes before I can enable the aliases above to my Microsoft account!

It's a bit sad really as Hotmail (HoTMaiL) was the first mainstream web based email service. So much has changed since I got online in 1997.

For anyone who can't see their emails, try clicking on your name (top right) and in the list it will have one or several email addresses, select the one you want to see.

I created a new account but thinking about I probably should have signed in with my Live ID and created a new outlook alias. Will have to see if I can move my Live stuff to my new email address.

How are other people doing it? Just creating a new account or adding an outlook alias to their existing account

It is veeeery slow to send email. I sent test message from Gmail to Outlook and they arrived almost instantly. The other way around they are taking a couple of minutes!

Apart from that I actually prefer the interface over Gmail from what I have used so far. Wouldn't use it as my main account for a long time yet though.

I've made this same mistake but I've not closed the new account yet. Wondering if there is a trouble shooting email address somewhere that I could contact to see if they could give me a hand.

Yeah I made a new account as well, ideally want to merge the email address and content from my old hotmail account into the new one. At the moment i've just setup forwarding from old to new and configured it as a linked account.

If anyone finds a way to do this let me know!

I've registered my Outlook account, but I wish I'd renamed my Hotmail account instead because that has 25GB Skydrive. Is there any way to rename it to my registered Outlook account?
