Hotspot shield VPN slow

I have just switched to Vodafone ISP and am getting the contracted 70 plus Mbps download. When I turn hotspot on I am only getting about 4-5mbps. I have tried US,Australia,UK to see if it alters but it doesn't. Surprisingly my IP address is always US based even when I select australia during some testing. Hotspot is supposed to be fast and i have the premium package. Any help great fully received

VPN’s are encrypted connections to/from a remote server, that encryption has an overhead, on devices that can do that in hardware, it’s much less noticeable and therefore faster, on devices that do that encryption in software it’s slower. You also seem to have chosen quite distant end points, due to peering and latency, you’ll struggle to get full line speed on the opposite side of the world, especially Oz which just sucks in general from a connectivity perspective.

I was just testing near and far to see if the speed changes which not didn't. Also my IP was always in America even when I changed the server to UK or Oz. I am using thisnon a tablet so expect some reduction in speed but would have only thought 20-30%. Anything else I can check
