Any recommendations for decent software, either free or reasonably priced, for either Mac or PC?

I assume it will need to be two different pieces of software but if there is one that does both then all the better.

are we talking interior design or architectural design?

I use Sketchup for a lot of my work and it can give a great idea of finished items, it's easy to pick up and its free.

Both. Essentially I'm looking to partition an 1,100 square ft area - design the room layout and the interior. Potentially including electrical circuits and AV systems, although not essential.

Ideally I would like to be able to export floorpans, possibly annotated, that would save me having to redo them in another program.

I'm going to have a look at Sketchup but wondering if there are any better programs for this.

Sketchup comes with "layout" and "style builder", i've not really used them but I know that layout is supposed to be good with general blueprint style things.

Give a google, it may be what you are looking for
