whats wrong with the trusty members of OcUK...

we have plentiful knowledge such as pipes and water along with some air con - just head over to the overclocking and cooling section im sure they can help with the delta fans and radiators etc

decent forums are imposable to find and even less easy unless you build with brick and mortar :rolleyes:

Again unless you use brick and Mortar most webpages are useless.

However If you do use a normall building material. Have a look at a website but you need this book...

If you ask for infomation, everyone will tell you to read this first

Yes I agree, they all seem carp when I've looked.
The trouble with any online build advice is it doesn't account for regional differences which can be huge.

Nope, but def worth it, you'll end up with Massive positive equity, but it's a lot of hard work and stress.

Yup I've done it and it was worth it but it is very stressful and very time consuming, luckily my old man paid me a wage whilst I built it.

I've just dropped out of the bidding today on another plot.
The seller wanted 188k or 190 with the bungalow on it knocked down, offered him 190, he then changes his mind.
Knew he was talking carp when he said he could knock it down and get rid of it for 2k including asbestos removal. But he won't take a 185k cash offer, which he accepted four months ago with another buyer before it fell through :mad:

The price of plots now is crazy, it used to be a third for the plot a third to build and a third profit. I was planning on a build of around 110 - 120 and a profit of 50 - 60k.

To the op if you were interested in building your own house and are a bit wary of it I looked around a maple timber frame build today and I was surprised how good it was.
The builder said took 8 weeks from ordering and the inside shell was up in 2.5 weeks
Now he can get on with the inside whilst the brickies are doing the outside and they have something to follow so it will be harder for them to balls up.

I could see it being less stressful for a self build.

I was looking at the link in Maple. I have to say that I was shocked as to how cheap it is to get the house built. Obviously, the internal fixtures and fittings will be extra, but the actual house itself isnt too expensive to get up. The problem is land though - land is very expensive in England.

Self build is something that I might consider later on in my life when I have a bit more money and want my house to be fully customised.

a good UK based timber house manufacturer are AVALON, also featured on grand designs. they do a design service but would probably be best to get an architect to do the design if ya thinking of doing your own build you will get more of what you want in the house
