To celebrate my up and coming anniversary of home ownership the usual insurances, phone line rental etc pop through the door as a reminder i have bills to pay!

So with a day off work I take a look at my house buildings and content insurances. The total of £166.64 which i thought fair enough things go up in prices over the years. Last year i paid £151.94 for my insurance so as a test i went back onto direct line's website (thats who im with) and checked out what figure they would give me.......£149.46 with the added bonus of me adding a years no claims as well as adding accidental cover!

Gave them a quick phone to see what that was all about and the guy on the other end of the phone doubled checked through the figures and I agreed for the lesser amount with more stuff to cover me.

Maybe worth checking things out if your insurance is up for renewal shortly :D

Sounds like standard insurance practice.

By default they just add on a 'lazy *******' tax at renewal and hope you just bend over and accept it.

/remembers own renewal is due soon

Yeah, every year we get a renewal letter that's more expensive than the same thing put into the same company's website. Then we look around and always find a better deal elsewhere, at which point the original company suddenly manages to do a better offer.
