I need a recommendation for building and contents home insurance. I know there is price compassion sites, however as with car insurance some can be difficult to deal with if making a claim.

Also someone who is ok insuring high value computer equipment etc, House is in a very low risk area if this helps.

Also how does the no claim system on home insurance work. I have 2 years of building insurance alone, however this was taken in 2009 and 2010 on a previous house I have now sold.

Any advice appreciated.

Most policies will give you x amount of cover based on what you yell them your contents is worth, buy will ask you to specifically name and high value items, fancy computer, jewellery etc.

Again read the advice on money saving expert to help choose.

NFU Mutual. 'Which?' award winners and making a claim with them is a good experience, as you get the feeling they're trying to pay rather than trying not to.

I am with NFU, not the cheapest, but one of the few that would insure some of my hifi gear. On my policy I only need to list items over £5k.

Thanks for the feedback, I will get a quote from NFU.

Do you know if NFU is new for old on replacement?

They are new for old as long as your policy's sums insured covers the cost of new replacement. In other words, make sure you aren't under-insured.

Also, go and visit an agent if you have one near you. They're very helpful.

I've just gone with More Than. They came up the best value on moneysupermarket and then when I got a direct quote with them the premium was lower for the same cover + I was able to get £20 cashback on quidco.

Regards high value equipment they ask you to list any individually items over £1000, I added about £3500 of camera equipment and a £1500 saxaphone and it didn't actually affect the premium.

They do new for old as well.
