Hi guys,

At the moment we have a a few gigabit switches around the house and wall plates obviously with cables going from/to different rooms.

All the wall sockets work, however none of them appear to do gigabit - i can confirm the devices work at gigabit if i plug them directly into the switch.

the switches are fairly recent and has no need for crossover cables.

Any suggestions as to why the this would happen? they all work at full 100meg duplex speed with no dropping issues and all the cable is cat5e along with the faceplates, I have tried different cables at both ends but same issue.

Thanks.

I was going to buy some new cable but i thought i best ask first before jumping to conclusions as i will have to buy a 100m reel shrug.

Have you physically removed them and reterminated and are you sure their terrminated the same at both ends?

I would get a cable tester before buying new cable, you can get ones quite cheap that come in two parts so you can test it in place.

btw I bought my cable by the metre, can't say where because of the rules but feel free to email me if you want to know.

Managed to sort this, ordered a proper punchdown tool, not the crappy 50p thing from B&Q which snaps after a few punches.

All ports came up at gigabit :)

Thanks guys.
