i only ask because my bios said my CPU was 45oC and that was @ idle, yet systool in windows is telling me that my idle temp is 37oC i dont know what to believe... i have done some heavy overclocking today so im worried about overheating the CPU :( (got an extra 680Mhz out of my venice :D )

Systool like other monitoring software doesn't actually sense the temp it reads it via the monitoring chip(s) on the motherboard. What it does with that reading afterwards I don't know. The bios temp would be a good place to start for a base reading unless the bios is known to use wayward calculations for the temps (it happens, I remember an Abit bios update altering the temps by 10ºC+)

i wouldnt trust the onboard sensors as they are never giving particulary good readouts (known and well documented problem). So if u must know the exact temp then i would use a probe, but otherwise a safe best is to assume its the higher temp. Although in ure case the 45 at idles does seem high, depends on ure oc as to how high u would expect it to be. you could also look into some after market cooling which would keep u nice and cool, look at artic freezer 64 pro, zalman 9500, themaltake big typhoon or scythe ninja.
