Howdy ho.
I've just got a Coolermaster V8 from OCUK, and installed it today. My temperatures have been a little erratic so I thought I'd ask some advice from the forums.
Here are my general OC-related specs:
Asus P6T
i7 920- 2.6ghz
6gb DDR3 Ram (1,600mhz)
Pre-overclocking, my idle temp was a rather astounding 15c with the V8 cooler. I then overclocked to 4ghz using these settings:
BLCK:200
DRAM Freq- 1600
CPU V-1.35
CPU PLL V-1.96
QPI/DRAM V-1.35
DRAM V- 1.66
I've ran a few stress tests and had mixed results.
Here are the tools I've used:
CPU-Z
SpeedFan
RealTemp
IntelBurnTest
STALKER: Call of Pripyat maxed out at 1680x1050
ARMA 2 maxed out at 1680x1050
According to SpeedFan, I get an idle temp of around 25-35c. I then ran IntelBurnTest with 5 passes at maximum setting (i.e, a ridiculously full load). After doing this my highest core temperature reached a rather staggering 90c at the height of the test, with one core briefly hitting 100c for a brief moment, and my highest CPU temperature was around 80 to 85c. However, it still passed the test and was deemed stable.
I tested it with some intensive games. I ran the benchmarks in ARMA 2 several times, and made a level featuring huge numbers of jets and infantry to stress the CPU. I also played Call of Pripyat for a good while. On both of these occasions the CPU never went above around 55c according to the graph on SpeedFan, although RealTemp reported a brief max core temp of around 74 at one point.
How are these temperatures? And if possible, is there any way to improve my temperatures by choosing more efficient BIOS settings?
I'll give Crysis: Warhead a whirl and say how it goes.
It should also be noted that CPU-Z seems to keep changing the Core Speed and Multiplier readings depending on whether I'm idle or in a game. Is this normal?
