How are these temps for an E6600?

Doing some overclocking for the first time and seeing how far I can comfortably go with the E6600 I've been using for the past couple of years.

Ran a small FFT Orthos test at priority 10 for 30 mins with no errors and the CPU currently at 3.2Ghz.

However, idle temps are about 55C and it ran at max 69C under the small FFT test. Are these temps ok?

Theyre certainly on the high side, my previous e6600 clocked to 3.6ghz (1.525v) idled at 29-31'c and never went above 60'c at load. Check the seating of your cooler and maybe reapply thermal paste and make sure you have good airflow through the case.

Thanks - the cooler is an Arctic Freezer 7. I've just improved the case airflow: idle and max temps have both dropped by about 5 degrees. I'll reapply the paste and see if that cedes any further improvement.

Well, after reapplying the thermal paste it's exactly the same. I went back to stock speeds and this thing is still about 50-55C idle! Is it likely to be the CPU or the cooler?

Have a similar issue with my E8400 atm and same cooler.

Started off great, OC'd right upto 4ghz with like 28degrees idle, ~ 60 load .. now its shot upto ~ 41 degrees idle, 68 load even at stock speeds for no apparent reason, re-seating and such hasnt made any difference.. gonna have to find a new cooler i guess.
