How are these timings?

While I save up for X79 I'm trying to squeeze more performance out of my RAM to improve video encode times. Even a 1-2 average fps improvement will help.

The MHZ has some more in it but not enough so I don't have to lower the rest of the OC. The timings are as best as I can get them stable but I put this system together over 2 years ago and have forgoten everything about OCing timings.

How do they look, shall I just buy some faster RAM?

Try and get tRP down to 8, tRAS to 18 (or lower) and tRC down to 20 (or lower). Might well require a bump in ram voltage. (1.8V or so) If you really push the boat out, you might get down to CL7. This is with my kingston hyperX genesis 1600C9 kit. It is at the raged edge though as it requires 2V on the ram and it isn't very stable above 1600.

This is how it normally runs for 24/7 use. (I run 2 dissimilar kits which hampers timing adjustments.)

These thuban's make me major jealous as my X4 deneb can't manage more than 2.9GHz NB which needs 1.45V. The cpu needs around 1.55V for 4GHz and even then it isn't greatly stable.

For new ram, 8 pack recommended the 2400C9 team xtreem LV kit.

Cheers Kei I'll give that a go tomorrow, what are safe volts for 24/7 use? It's at 1.755v for the above. The IC seems to be Elpida BABG but I can't find any info on safe volts.

should have mentioned I use a D14, unfortunatly those team extreem sticks are too tall.

It's just aswell the thubans need less volts, I struggle to keep it under 50c at 1.425v. Your Super PI time is better than mine too (17m49s).

Up to 1.95V should be ok. From the thread on xtreme systems, best you can expect is 7-9-7 and worst 8-9-8. Oc3d managed 8-8-8-24 with a set of value Kingston modules using BABG ic's. It'll be a case of trial and error to get the best timings that are reliable.

wow really, loadsa room left then. Saw that XS post too, those timings are at 1600 and 1700 is about the limit according to that but I'll see what it can do.

Plenty of room for clocking those dimms yes.

Report back with sub timings how you do and maybe more advice can be offered.

That's good to hear.

I need to dig out a fan but I'm pretty sure heat is holding it back. Last night more volts just made it more unstable, this morning what wasn't stable now is untill I've been running it at load for a while so I felt the dimms and they are hot.

The machine is tied atm but I'll find a fan and continue later.

Sub timings, the ones not displayed by CPU-Z? I've never touched those so if there are big gains to be had there fantastic, I'll get some screenshots later.

Ok with 2 fans on the dimms it's still not stable, anything over 1.845v and it won't even boot needing a cmos reset to get back in.

Got stable at 1.785v 1666 7-9-8-18-18 and here is the bios screen which I hope shows the sub timings.

It's fun messing with OCing again although a pita when you have to clear cmos and set everything up again, can't wait to get a MB that saves profiles.
