How bad is the Firestick UI if not a Amazon subscriber?

have read numerous reports online of people saying the Firestick UI is not the best if you just want to use apps and not consume the content Amazon want to show you.

I just want to access Plex, Youtube, iPlayer, nothing more but all the screenshots of the UI look bloated with content I will never consumer, if that makes sense.

Can you change the home Ui to just show installed Apps?

It seems like apps are secondary along the tiny bar at the top.

Takes half a second to select Plex and open it. Really not an issue.

If your just using a handful of apps and you know which ones, cant you just either scroll and select that one or use the voice remote - alexa, open Plex.
