How best to cool this CPU down?

Friend of mine has a Packard Bell EasyNote E6307 laptop with a Sempron Mobile 3000+ processor, but it runs very hot even at idle.

Was running some stuff on it last night and Speedfan showed it at 72 degrees at full load, and about 67 idle. Harddrive at load was 42 degrees.

Cleaned out the fan/heatsink with an airduster which got it down to 64 degrees idle, but it's still too toasty. The fan speed does vary according to cpu load, but even at full speed the cpu is 64 degrees at idle.

There doesn't appear to be any cpu throttling software, there are absolutely no customisable BIOS options and the CPU benchmarks pretty much where I would expect for it running at 100% speed.

Any ideas if there's anything that can be done to get the temps down?

Thanks.

Open the bad boy up and take the cooler off, normally scewed down.
Clean off the thermal gunk and put some new termal paste on it.

Thanks.

Too much hassle tbh. Plus I'm at work and have to give it back in a couple of hours and my cleaner and TIM is at home.... :(

Might be worth doing it another time though. Thanks.

You can try one of these notebook cooler fans you sit youre machine one, these have a fan built into them.

Other than this, make sure that you have the latest BIOS update, PB normally have updates on thier site to make sure that is all fine.

I took an air compressor to my fans on my toshiba which helped. If the tempretures get that bad the machine will just turn itself off.

I used a compressed air can to give it a bit of a blowout, which did help a few degrees. Apparently it has turned itself off a couple of times in the past....

Wonder if there's something wrong with the cpu throttlilng - maybe the fan is adjusting to the temp, but the cpu is still running at 1.8Ghz (or whatever the 3000+ is!)
Possible?
