How best to secure laptop?

BitLocker should provide adequate protection from someone just mounting the drive in another system - but Windows accounts are relatively easy to break into if someone is determined if they have the whole system.
 
You could set a boot up password in the BIOS as well. That combined with bitlocker is going to stop most random thieves from doing anything with it.
