How big a downgrade is this?

Well I want to move over to the pci express platform, but I cant afford the best gfx card this time, so I am just curious about how big a downgrade I will see in games comparing these two systems:

Old one:

P4 3.2ghz htt northwood
1gb ram
6800gt 128mb agp gfx

New one:
AMD X2 4400 (1mb cache)
2gb ram
6600gt 256mb pci-e gfx

Simply go for a cheaper x2, clock it's socks off and use the cash saved on a better 3d card.

[Edit]Infact if you go for a X2 3800 then you'll have £120 more to spend, and the performance when clocked to 4400 speeds wil be negligible.[/Edit]

I will get a better gfx in a couple of months, so I just needed something in between.
Somehow I thought moving from 1gb ram + p4 to 2gb ram and the Amd chip would make the gab between the 6600 (256mb) and the 6800(128mb) a little smaller, but perhaps there is such a big difference?

Depends on which games you're going to be playing. Things like FEAR cap out on your 3d card, as do many new games, so the performance increase of buying a 4400 wont be seen unless you get a decent graphics card. It's not worth £120 more just for 1mb cache.

agree with james, the asrock board is a peach and for 35 quid you cant go wrong . the only problem is overclockers dont sell them so you will have to look around
