Car in question is a pug 205

Roughly how easy/hard would it be to convert from an auto gearbox to a manual, providing i can find a good manual box to swap with ?

Anybody done this on any cars ? Is it simply a matter of swapping boxes and linkages etc or would it be more complicated ?

Thanks

well i don't own the car but it's cheap and i was thinking about buying it as a project...

it's in great condition with leather interior but the auto box is putting me right off

Surely the cost of buying an Auto and then retro fitting a Manual must massively outweigh the costs of buying a Manual outright??

This is not always the case, for example with SiR Civics and MIVEC Mirages the auto versions fetch a ridiculously low price compared with a manual, and doing a conversion is not difficult. Engine is likely in a better condition in an auto too.

hopefully will be test driving it today. It's a 1.9 petrol engine. Anyone any idea if this would be a similar engine to the 1.9 gti ?

only 79,000 miles too

EDIT: after a google it appears it's not the same engine as the GTI. The auto's engine runs a lower compression ratio and puts out 105 bhp

It's not original then, the only 205 with a 1.9 petrol engine is the GTi. The auto's had 1.6 litre engines.

Oh really? :)

EDIT: As for the OP, you'd need to sort the clutch (pedal, cable, clutch plates), change the gearbox (that part is probably the 'easiest'), and there could well be other issues with regard to the drive shafts etc.

you would also need a new flywheel, and the way the throttle is connected would also be different.

Yup it is a Gentry edition with 1.9 engine as standard.

I've decided it's not for me. was thinking of this for a winter project but sounds like more than i care to take on and i just couldn't live with an auto box.

Thanks for all the help and advice ;)
